2010 really does feel like a new start for me. I know it sounds cliche and people say that every year but things are really starting a major shift in my little corner of the universe. 6 months ago Molly and I started Desert Sky Adventures (Desert Sky Adventures). We were able to start this company because Norm Klein agreed to sell us the Rio Del Lago 100m/50k endurance run (Rio Del Lago 100m/50k). We were amazingly lucky to get such an opportunity to RD an amazing race and learn for Norm and Helen Klein who are legends in the ultrarunning world. Since we started 6 months ago me and the amazing team of people I have around have put together 7 races for 2010 with more to come in 2011.
Secondly I have been able to really immerse myself in the ultrarunning world and I have met some amazing people. I really love how the majority of the community is just completely awesome. Runners that I totally look up to are now my friends and they are all amazing people and mentors.
So what does all of this have to do with the title of the blog? For a lot of years I really fought the system but never really understood what I was fighting. Sort of a rebel without a cause. Now looking back this really isn't making your own way, it is more just causing problems for the sake of causing problems. Now I really do what I want to do and I don not worry what other people think. This has been a huge shift for me and has allowed me to truly enjoy my life a lot more. This doesn't mean I am satisfied with everything in my little world because that would be idiotic but I do believe that I can be whatever I want and do whatever I want.
Find your way and what makes you happy. Running makes me immensely happy and I will continue to do it as long as my feet will take me somewhere. Ultrarunning is an amazing sport and I look forward to many long races in the years to come.

Congratulations, Jimmy! I am a bit jealous of what you have done, but completely inspired. I will definitely grab my own brass ring one of these days.
ReplyDeleteGood luck this year with all the races. I hope to check them out someday.
Happy New Year!
